ISKANDAR MALAYSIA, MONDAY, 5 MARCH 2018: Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) launched the Smart City Iskandar Malaysia (SCIM) Recognition Guidelines today, as it forges ahead in realising the region as a Smart City by 2025.
In line with the economic corridor’s enhanced Comprehensive Development Plan (CDPii), the Smart City Iskandar Malaysia (SCIM) Recognition Guidelines is published to provide clear guidance on the usage of ‘Smart’ related recognition in Iskandar Malaysia, and meet current and future pressing needs for the developers to incorporate ‘smart’ features into their development. This is also to ensure all the stakeholders are kept abreast with the development of Iskandar Malaysia and its Smart City agenda.
Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive of IRDA said, “Iskandar Malaysia’s advances towards realising its smart city plans are consistent with the government’s acknowledgement of the need for smart city developments that focus on strengthening infrastructure to support future growth and improved quality of life as contained in the 11th Malaysia Plan.
“We will continue to ensure that this economic corridor’s Smart City development is carried out strategically with the support of all our partners. Let us all work together to realise and present Iskandar Malaysia as the first Smart Metropolis of Asia to the world,” Datuk Ismail added.
Keeping in pace with the SCIM Recognition Guidelines and the Smart City agenda, SIRIM Berhad and Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (MPPG) inked an MOU towards implementing the Iskandar Malaysia Smart City Action Plan at MPPG’s level.
The MOU includes collaboration in the preparation and implementation of Renewable Energy and Energy Management Programs and technical trainings related to Energy Management, and the implementation of training programs and/ or consultancy services towards ISO 50001: 2011 certification, amongst others. This collaboration forms part of the Iskandar Malaysia Smart City Action Plan, that is being implemented with the cooperation of the local authorities within Iskandar Malaysia since 2017.
Creating further excitement in the Smart City agenda, IRDA and Maybank also launched the Maybank QRPay service for Iskandar Malaysia. The Maybank QRPay app allows businesses to receive payments from their customers instantly into their bank account and monitor their business transactions conveniently on the go. This solution is a new way to make payments instantly with a unique QR Code. It is fast, more secure and a great alternative to cash.
“IRDA welcomes this kind of commitment and encourages organisations that have investment interest in Iskandar Malaysia to collaborate together towards achieving Iskandar Malaysia’s vision of becoming a Strong and Sustainable Metropolis of International Standing,” said Datuk Ismail.
