ISKANDAR MALAYSIA, TUESDAY, 19 SEPTEMBER 2018: President of The Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, and his delegation visited Iskandar Malaysia this morning to gain more insight about the region’s tremendous development achievement with the hope to further strengthen relationship and business networking between the two parties.

“The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the most dynamically developing regions of the Russian Federation with an aim to create an efficient, knowledge-based economy and to develop innovative businesses and the high-tech sector by 2030. Their visit today reflects the continuing strategic interest in Iskandar Malaysia amongst global players, mainly due to its strategic location at the heart of Asia and the region’s capabilities and wide-ranging offering as an investment hub through its 9 promoted sectors,” commented Chief Executive of IRDA, Datuk Ismail Ibrahim.

Datuk Ismail added that today’s visit allowed the delegation from Tatarstan to identify Iskandar Malaysia as a potential location for business expansion and also consider other possibilities such as strategic business partnerships and collaborations in this region.

The Republic of Tatarstan, its capital called Kazan, has a population of 3.8 million and sees petrochemicals, plastics and rubber as its main export.

Tatarstan has also incorporated ‘smart city’ elements into its development strategy and that makes Iskandar Malaysia an appropriate case study and partner in this futuristic effort.

For Iskandar Malaysia, strong relationship with Tatarstan can lead to more access and reach into the Russian and the bigger European market.

Datuk Ismail said that he is confident that Iskandar Malaysia’s many achievements in its economic, social and environmental agendas is the main factor that pulls people’s interest in the region be it for investment or to work, live and play here.

“Being a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing that puts equal importance to its economic, social and environmental agendas in its growth and development plan allow Iskandar Malaysia to offer a wholesome and holistic experience to investors, tourists and locals alike,” added Datuk Ismail.

The visit was part of the delegation’s 2-day visit to Malaysia and Singapore and received a warm welcome from YB Jimmy Puah, Johor State International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee Chairman as an official representative of YAB Menteri Besar of Johor, Chief Executive of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), Datuk Ismail Ibrahim himself and the management team of IRDA at Bangunan Dato Jaafar Muhammad Kota Iskandar, Iskandar Puteri, Iskandar Malaysia.
